There are some ceremonies that feel like pure magic from start to finish and Beth and Andy’s wedding ceremony at The Gaggle of Geese was exactly that. Set in the heart of the Dorset countryside, their day was a perfect blend of romance, personality, laughter, and meaningful ritual.

Beth and Andy are the kind of couple who just fit. Beth, a crystal-loving cowgirl with a deeply spiritual side, and Andy, a grounded, farm-loving paramedic - true yin and yang. Different energies, perfectly balanced, and completely inseparable. Their ceremony reflected that harmony in the most authentic and joyful way beautifully captured by Hollyhock Photography.

A Ceremony Rooted in Nature & Meaning

A bride and groom hold hands under a tree during their outdoor wedding, with an officiant reading from a book. Soft, natural setting.

Nestled beside a gently flowing river, their ceremony space felt peaceful, intimate, and deeply connected to the natural world. It inspired one of their chosen readings, a beautiful piece about the journey of a river, symbolising life, change, and the way two paths can merge and flow forward together.

One of the most touching elements was their handfasting. Surrounded by loved ones, each ribbon was laid gently across their hands, representing the support and strength of their community. At the end of the ceremony, the ribbons were blessed with water from the river flowing through the ceremony space, a meaningful nod to the old saying, “a wet knot is harder to untie.” It was symbolic, grounding, and incredibly moving.

Personal Vows (and a Very Special Ringbearer)

Beth and Andy chose to write and share their own vows, and there wasn’t a dry eye or a quiet moment! Their words were deeply romantic, full of heartfelt promises, and beautifully punctuated with laughter thanks to stories and anecdotes from their life together.

Adding to the charm of the ceremony was Luna, their miniature wire haired dachshund, who proudly took on the role of ringbearer. She stole the show (as expected), bringing smiles to every single guest when she appeared earlier than expected having broken free from the shepherd's hut!

Crystals, Energy & Clearing the Air

In true Beth style, the ceremony included spiritual elements that felt completely natural and personal to them as a couple. Ahead of the day, Beth had lovingly charged her crystals, infusing them with intention and positive energy.

Before exchanging vows, we held a gentle smudging ritual, clearing the space, calming the energy, and creating a moment of stillness before one of the most important parts of their ceremony. It was a beautiful pause, allowing Beth and Andy to fully connect with each other and the moment.

Beth is also the owner of Lavender Moon, her crystal and spiritual shop in Poole, which brings so much of her personality and passion into everything she does including her wedding day.

A Wedding Ceremony at the Gaggle of Geese is Without Limits

One of the reasons Beth and Andy were able to include so many meaningful, personal elements is because they chose to work with an independent celebrant.

Unlike traditional, more restrictive ceremonies, working with someone like me means complete freedom. Every moment is crafted around you: your story, your beliefs, your personalities. Whether that’s handfasting, smudging rituals, personal vows, or including your dog as ringbearer, nothing is off the table.

And at a venue like The Gaggle of Geese, this flexibility is essential. As an unlicensed venue, couples can’t have a legal ceremony on-site, but that’s where an independent celebrant-led ceremony becomes the perfect solution. It allows you to have your non-legal wedding ceremony exactly where and how you want it, without compromise. You can then simply follow up with a registry appointment complete the legal paperwork separately.

The Ultimate Dorset Festival Wedding Venue

The Gaggle of Geese is truly something special. More than just a pub, it offers a full weekend wedding experience that feels relaxed, fun, and completely unique.

With incredible food, a welcoming pub atmosphere, and a whole host of quirky features from a soft play bus for little guests to mini golf, friendly animals, and beautiful glamping accommodation, it’s designed for celebration.

And then there’s the festival-style tipi in the garden, creating the perfect setting for a laid-back, joy-filled wedding weekend under the Dorset sky. It’s the kind of place where memories are made not just in moments, but across an entire experience.

Why Choose an Independent Celebrant?

Beth and Andy’s ceremony is the perfect example of what’s possible when you step away from a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

As an independent celebrant, I work closely with every couple to create something truly bespoke. I take the time to get to know you, understand your story, and design a ceremony that feels completely authentic, whether that’s romantic, spiritual, humorous, or a blend of everything.

Your ceremony should feel like you. Not just something you have to do, but something you and your guests will remember forever.
