There’s something undeniably magical about an autumn wedding ceremony at Lulworth Castle. As the leaves turn to gold and the Dorset countryside softens into warm, earthy tones, it creates the perfect backdrop for a ceremony filled with personality, symbolism, and love.

Chris and Toni’s wedding was exactly that - a beautifully curated celebration that reflected who they are as a couple in the most meaningful ways.

From the very beginning, Chris and Toni wanted a ceremony that felt completely them. When we first met in person at a little pub in Poundbury, we talked about their interests, life and hobbies.

As an Dorset wedding celebrant, that’s where I come in. Together, we designed a symbolic wedding ceremony that wove together their shared passions, their story, and the little details that make their relationship unique.

A Ceremony Rich in Symbolism

Bride and groom exchange vows in a rustic, stone-walled venue. Guests seated on wooden chairs, greenery lining the aisle, sunlight streaming in.

One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony was the handfasting ritual. Chris and Toni’s bridesmaids and groomsmen each stepped forward to gently lay ribbons over their joined hands, symbolising the support and love of their closest friends and family. It was a deeply moving moment quiet, intentional, and full of meaning.

They each shared a wish for the couple or some marriage advice, just the 3 of them, in that moment when they came up one by one.

Their ceremony also featured a series of thoughtful readings that perfectly captured their personalities. An extract from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy brought warmth and humour, while a quote from Einstein on relativity added a touch of poetic reflection reminding us all that time is truly relative when you’re with the one you love.

A Tea Ceremony with a Personal Twist

In a beautiful nod to their first date at a tea house, Chris and Toni included a tea ceremony. Each had created a bespoke blend for the other: Toni crafted a rich chocolate tea for Chris, while Chris blended a delicate floral tea for Toni.

Watching them exchange and combine these blends was a lovely representation of how they complement one another, distinct yet harmonious. They were able to sit and sip their tea in marriage cups I had sourced from Glastonbury for them, as they listened to their readings.

Rolling for Initiative

When it came time to exchange vows, Chris and Toni added a playful twist that had everyone smiling, they rolled their Dungeons & Dragons dice for initiative to determine who would go first.

It was such a perfect reflection of their shared interests and sense of fun, proving that even the most heartfelt moments can carry a spark of joy and individuality.

An Enchanted Setting

The ceremony space itself was nothing short of breathtaking. Styled by Melissa Rose, the setting was transformed into an ethereal elven woodland, blending seamlessly with the natural beauty of the castle grounds. It felt as though we had stepped into another world, one that perfectly mirrored the magic of Chris and Toni’s love story.

Capturing every moment was Caroline Alexander Photography, whose work beautifully reflects the emotion, atmosphere, and intricate details of the day.

The Timeless Beauty of Lulworth Castle

Lulworth Castle is one of Dorset’s most iconic wedding venues, steeped in history and surrounded by breathtaking parkland. Originally built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge, the castle has been lovingly restored and now offers a truly unique setting for weddings.

Couples can choose from a variety of ceremony options, whether it’s an intimate indoor setting or an outdoor celebration framed by the rolling countryside. The estate itself offers endless photographic opportunities and a sense of grandeur that’s hard to match.

You can find out more about the castle, its history, and wedding options here.

I’m also proud to attend their annual wedding fair, where I meet couples at the very start of their planning journey and help them imagine what’s possible when you step away from a “standard” ceremony.

Why Choose an Independent Celebrant?

One of the biggest advantages of working with an independent celebrant is the freedom to create something truly personal. There are no set scripts, no restrictions, just a ceremony that reflects your story, your values, and your personalities.

With Chris and Toni, every element was intentional. From the readings to the rituals, from the humour to the heartfelt moments, their ceremony was completely bespoke. That’s always my goal, to craft something that feels authentic, meaningful, and unforgettable.

I work closely with every couple, getting to know them, understanding their journey, and guiding them through the process of building a ceremony that feels just right. Whether that means incorporating symbolic rituals, personal vows, or unique traditions (or even a D&D dice roll!), I’m here to make it happen.
